GURU RAS DAS PROJECT

Guru Ram Das Project (GRDP) is a UK based yoga charity with the aim of improving physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing of vulnerable people, and of promoting tolerance, understanding and harmony between and amongst communities.

The GRDP delivers its services through an inspired team of staff and over 40 volunteers.

  • Our main service is the provision of Kundalini Yoga and meditation classes to those most in need, to vulnerable people in challenging circumstances and/or with specific health conditions, and to support and further training and education for yoga teachers. We are dedicated to serving everybody, whatever their background or situation.

We specialise in setting up adapted Kundalini Yoga and meditation classes for people who cannot, for whatever reason, access or participate in ordinary public classes, but who could greatly benefit from and enjoy customised practice.

  • We also organise continuing education courses and workshops for teachers who deliver such classes. We run trainings to specialise in chair-based yoga for older adults, in teaching people with HIV, teaching people with dementia, any more?, and we have a wealth of information and experience to share of how to adapt classes and what serves best for which client group. We find outside specialist trainings and resources whenever we cannot offer them ourselves.

All of our teachers are professionally trained and qualified, and supported by the charity’s professional advisors: Medical, yoga therapists, yoga teacher trainers, talking therapists and experts in children’s yoga, chronic fatigue and dementia. As well recruiting and supporting teachers, we also are here to help resolve any challenges that arise in relation to the class provision.

Beyond our main outreach work we occasionally arrange community events, educational courses and and inter faith work to encourage understanding and harmony between and amongst diverse communities. We look for opportunities to promote a healthy and wholesome way of life, develop the attitude of service towards others and encourage high standards of personal conduct in all.
